Old coots now, but we saw & heard it first-hand when Okie music MADE Country & Merle was king. The Hag is the height Countrys poet laureate, vox populi of the common man, a living treasure of unmatched talent as lyricist, composer, vocalist, musician, mimic, raconteur, comic, & raconteur. He is one of the few people Ive known who I can honestly say is an authentic genius. The greatest alliterative opening line ever in a song: A canvas-covered cabin in a crowded labor camp. Genius.

I'm an old coot now and I came to Bakersfield when I was 15. I can remember sneaking into the Blackboard underage to see Merle sing. This man still shares Bakersfield greatness with Buck Owens and many others who brought our sound to the national country music scene.

Amen. Country music will be dead. The same goes for Willie nelson.

I saw him in the Twin Cities in 1976. I was only 8 yrs old, but I knew I had witnessed greatness! He has been THE MAN ever since!

I seen Merle once in Omaha, it was really really great. I wasn't a country music fan then, and I'm not one now actually. But I know I saw the real thing and appreciated it then and through all these years.
